Liberace Technologies is a good old snowboard and skateboard manufacturer that has been around for ages. Better known as Lib Tech, it was formed in 1977 by founders Peter Saari and Mike Olson. The company falls under the umbrella of parent company Mervin Manufacturing, who also owns GNU, and Bent Metal Bindings. Surf company Quiksilver bought Mervin in 1997.
Lib Tech is known for its radical approach to snowboard design. The most recent and noteworthy design from LibTech is Magne-Traction. The introduction of Lib Tech’s Banana Technology (BTX) marked yet another departure from orthodox snowboard design. The Lib Tech Skate Banana snowboard, which features magne-traction and reverse camber technology, has been extremely well-received by the snowboard community and has garnered Lib Tech a slew of awards.
Lib Tech is also known throughout the snowboard industry for their longtime commitment to environmental sustainability, having replaced toxic ABS plastic with recyclable polyethylene in 1986, and introduced sustainable polymer topsheets and bamboo cores in 1995. A combination of magne-traction and Banana Technology has made Lib Tech Snowboards one of the front runners in the manufacturing industry today.
