Formerly known as K2 Corporation, K2 Sports was founded in 1961 by brothers Bill and Don Kirschner on Vashon Island, near Seattle, Washington. K2 Sports engages in the design, production, marketing, and sale of snowboards, alpine and Nordic/telemark ski equipment, and related winter and outdoor recreational products. It also offers snowshoes, ski boots, in-line skates, bikes, apparel, and accessories.
Its portfolio of leading brands include the Shakespeare®, Pflueger® and Stearns® in the Marine and Outdoor segment; Rawlings®, Worth®, K2 Licensed Products and Brass Eagle® in the Team Sports segment; K2®, Völkl ®, Marker® and Ride® in the Action Sports segment; and Adio®, Marmot® and Ex Officio® in the Apparel and Footwear segment.
K2 is also known for pioneering fiberglass ski technology, which made skis significantly lighter and more lively than their wood and metal contemporaries. K2's diversified mix of products is used primarily in team and individual sports activities such as fishing, water sports activities, baseball, softball, alpine skiing, snowboarding and in-line skating. It has operations in Canada, Central Europe, Japan, Korea, and Scandinavia. K2 Sports operates as a subsidiary of Sitca Corporation.
